It is a common fact that Linux sometimes can't give the convenience of Windows as the main purpose of Windows is user friendliness. Obviously there is a difference between highly paid set of programmers working on a common goal and many freelancers with different knowledge backgrounds work as they inspire and finally mix them up. So my idea is, do not expect the convenience of paid product from free product.
Ubuntu
Re: Ubuntu
I'm not sure that anybody is able to support you in a scenario that both Ubuntu and ProLink state this type of USB ADSL isn't supported by them. I think you have to settle down with what you have now or write something by your own. I feel like it is a waste of time to ask help as nobody has posted anything regarding this on the net.
